Welcome to Pearl Skin Studio

Q: My skin is oily & I believe that I shouldn’t use moisturizer; Is this true?

A: This is not true. A consultation with a licensed aesthetician is the best option to create a treatment plan including services and at-home care for daily use, including a moisturizer that is best suited for your skin. When the skin over-produces oil, it is typically a sign that your skin is not in balance & not getting enough hydration. By adding a moisturizer to your skin care regimen, this will help get your skin back to a harmonious balance & oil production will decrease. Jan Marini Transformation Face Cream is not only a hydrator, but has a patented formula that advances repair & healing of the skin for dramatic skin rejuvenation benefits & is suitable for all skin types.

Q: Does eating chocolate cause acne?

A: Not necessarily. Acne tends to be hereditary. Acne is an inflammatory response. Despite decades of research, there has been little proof that single foods like chocolate directly cause acne. But that doesn’t mean your diet has no influence over your skin. It’s more likely that the sugar in the chocolate is to blame for new pimples or deeper breakouts than the cocoa itself. If you’re going to eat chocolate and are worried about breakouts, try dark chocolate and keep an eye on added sugars and simple carbohydrates.

Q: What should I do about dark spots?

A: A consultation with a licensed aesthetician is the bet option to create a treatment plan including services & at-home care for daily use including a targeted accelerators for hyperpigmentation & daily sunscreen. Marini Luminate Face Lotion is an exceptional non-hydroquinone solution that lightens the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles to restore your skin’s youthful, radiant complexion.

Q: How do I tighten my pores?

A: The main causes of enlarged pores are excessive sebum & decreased elasticity around the pore. Excessive sebum is experienced when a person’s sebaceous gland produces a lot of oil & leads to oily skin. And decreased elasticity around the pore occurs when the skin becomes dehydrated & less supple. Both of these causes leading to enlarged pores are a sign that your skin is not balanced. A daily & consistent professional skin care regimen is the best way to balance your skin & tighten your pores. Jan Marini Bioclear Face Lotion & Transformation Face Cream are incredibly effective & the perfect duo to add to your skin care regimen for balanced skin & tight pores.

Q: What is the difference between physical SPF & Chemical SPF? Which is better?

A: Physical sunscreens contain active mineral ingredients, such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, which work by sitting on top of the skin to deflect & scatter damaging UV rays away from the skin. They offer protection against both UVA & UVB rays & protect from the sun as soon as they are applied. If you’re using a physical sunscreen, we recommend using zinc oxide (over titanium dioxide). Zinc is an anti-irritant & well tolerated by sensitive skin types. Chemical sunscreens absorb into the skin & then absorbs UV rays, converts the rays into heat & then releases from the body. Pearl Skin Studio aestheticians recommend using a physical SPF but we offer a selection of both physical & chemical sunscreens.

Q: Is it important to use vitamin C? What are the benefits?

A: Vitamin C is an essential part of your daily skin care regimen. It is an antioxidant that protects skin cells from damaging free-radicals caused by UV exposure and it also promotes collagen production. Jan Marini C-Esta Serum isn’t just a vitamin C, but it also includes DMAE to rejuvenate the skin by lifting & firming, giving the skin a more defined facial contour. DMAE also acts as a delivery enhancer to increase penetration of remaining products.

Q: Is rosacea hereditary?

A: Not necessarily. Rosacea is a complex disease so there is no true proof of it being hereditary. Rosacea is a disease of reactivity. It’s a chronic, inflammatory disorder and a disease of vasomotor instability. The blood vessels are compromised in Rosacea & tend to stay dilated.

Rosacea is not curable, but it is 100% manageable! Ask a Pearl Skin Studio aesthetician how to manage your rosacea.

Q: Is acne curable?

A: There is no cure for acne. You can get your skin completely clear by consistent use of professional skin care products & services. Age Intervention Duality is the most complete dual purpose acne & anti-aging solution, combining two gold standards in one unique & amazing product.

Q: Does sun exposure cure acne?

A: Sun exposure absolutely does not cure acne. The sun actually makes your acne worse! Sun tends to harden the stratum corneum & suppresses eruptions. Activity in the follicle doesn’t get to the surface the same way & this causes the acne to brew even worse in the follicle. Then when you are not in the sun, the stratum corneum softens & you have explosive acne.

Q: What are the most important parts of a skin care routine?

A: Since sun damage increases the risk of skin cancer, as well as skin problems ranging from wrinkles to dark spots, wearing sunscreen on a daily basis is essential. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum sun protection factor (SPF) of 20. Beyond that, it takes just a few minutes each morning & each evening to do the basics: washing with a gentle cleanser & applying a moisturizer to your face & neck.
